As one of our core practice areas, our team provides advisory services for copyright, trade and service marks, patents, software patent, industrial designs and geographical indications, data protection and trade secret. For media and entertainment, we offer music rights, film rights and licensing. The brand, innovations and ideas are all part of our clients’ assets and we protect them through our expertise in IP.

We advise on registration, licensing, renewals, exploitation, acquisition, assignments and transfer of technology. We ensure we keep abreast with the changing dynamics of IP, regulations and stakeholders such as Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and continuously finesse our skills.

We also negotiate and draft IP related agreements. We are currently handling the negotiation and drafting of documentation on behalf of a client for music license agreement with various international record labels.

Some types of protection our intellectual property and media attorneys can offer you are:

  • Patent: A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is a product or a process that provides a new way of doing something, or offers a new technical solution to a problem.
  • Copyright: These are rights that creators have over their literary and artistic works. Works covered by copyright range from books, music, paintings, sculpture, and films, to computer programs, databases, advertisements, maps, and technical drawings.
  • Trademarks: A trademark is a sign or symbol or colour or words capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one enterprise from those of other enterprises.
  • Industrial Design: An industrial design may consist of three dimensional features, such as the shape of an article, or two dimensional features, such as patterns, lines or colour.
  • Trade Secret: are a type of intellectual property that comprise formulas, practices, processes, designs, instruments, patterns, or compilations of information that have inherent economic value because they are not generally known or readily ascertainable by others, and which the owner takes reasonable measures to keep secret.[1] In some jurisdictions, such secrets are referred to as confidential information.
